Get the right advice before starting, So you can  avoid costly mistakes

A Partner Visa, Marriage Visa or De Facto Visa is for couples who are married, in a same-sex relationship or living in a De Facto relationship.

What is an Australian Partner Visa?

A Partner Visa is often the best solution for couples who are planning a future together in Australia. The Partner Visa, allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to enter into Australia to be with their partner or to remain in Australia (if the visa applicant can apply from inside Australia).

The applicant is initially granted a temporary visa, and is eligible for permanent residency if the relationship still exists after a two-year waiting period.

What are the requirements?

There is a long list of requirements and your suitability for a Partner Visa will depend on a number of different factors. While you feel you might meet the requirements, it’s important you are also able to evidence how you meet these requirements and this is often where couple’s struggle.

Some of the Partner Visa requirements include:

  • the couple must be in a mutually exclusive relationship.
  • the relationship must be genuine and continuing.
  • the couple must either live together, or live apart only on a temporary basis.

Above is only a summary of some of the requirements for an Australian Partner Visa. The circumstances of every relationship are different so it is important you identify which visa is the most suitable for you and your partner before lodging an application to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection.
