Originally from Victoria, Gavin Guy is an honest and hard-working Brisbane businessman who met the love of his life, Janthip Aronran in 2010.
Introduced by a mutual friend, the couple’s friendship blossomed as they chatted through Skype and on the phone. It wasn’t until 2010 that they met in person.
“Jan used to live in Thailand, about five hours drive out of Bangkok,” Gavin said.
“I remember when my friend and his wife and I made the drive to see her, it felt like such a long trip. I was literally on my way to a blind date.”
“When I met Jan, the four of us went out for dinner and I really enjoyed her company. It was everything I had hoped for,” he said.
Gavin said that he had to return to Bangkok with his friends the next day but was excited when Jan said she would come along.
“It didn’t take long for us to realise that we really liked each other and after a couple of years of courtship we got married,” he said.

“We had to be separated for most of that time because we had to get our partner visa. Whilst, I was in Australia, Jan was running around in Bangkok making countless five-hour trips back and forth to settle the applications.”
“She would have to get the documents translated into English on top of her work commitments. It was extremely stressful,” Gavin said.
Without the help of a migration agent, Gavin says that they would have struggled to get their partner visa application done correctly.
“The forms and their names kept changing and we kept making mistakes in our applications,” he said.
“It was a god-send when we met Emma at the Songkran Festival in Brisbane. We saw her stall and joined the long line of people waiting to ask her migration questions. It was one of the best things we ever did.”
“You don’t know how much you need professional help until you’re actually stuck in the immigration process and you’re filling out forms in the dark,” Gavin said.
Gavin says that the team at Freedom Migration was really good to work with and made him feel comfortable leaving his applications to them.
“What can I say, they really know their stuff,” he said.
“With their help, our visa was granted and Jan was able to join me more permanently in Australia.”
“I honestly don’t know how long it would’ve taken if we didn’t have Emma’s help and I would definitely recommend Freedom Migration to anyone.”
Emma is the founder and principal migration agent at Freedom Migration. She is extremely passionate about uniting partners and families with their loved ones overseas. It might be because she's a product of a partner visa family.
