Applying onshore means your partner is in Australia when the application is lodged. In most cases a bridging visa keeps them lawfully in the country while they wait.
Two things trip people up. If their current visa carries a No Further Stay condition, they cannot lodge onshore unless that condition is waived. And if they are already without a substantive visa, additional criteria apply that are difficult to meet. Both are worth checking before you lodge anything.
Book a time using the form below. We will send a short questionnaire so we understand your situation before we speak, then talk it through by video conference or phone call. We will confirm whether the onshore pathway is open to you, what evidence the Department will expect, and what the realistic timeline looks like. You will get our recommendations in writing afterwards.
Each member of our team is carefully chosen and are able to walk you through your application, stress free.

After 10 years I finally have permanent residency thanks to freedom migration. My case was tricky and they were very clear with deadlines and helped me through every step. Also accepted split payment, which made it possible for me to have their help with my visa. I wouldn't be in Australia without their assistance. Would highly recommend.Posted on Google![]()

Thanks Julie and her team so much! My partner and I has thr 820 visa granted ~18 month. Our application was rushed and somewhat difficult as we weren’t together very long when we decided to applied the partner visa. Julie has helped to analyse our situation and came up with a great suggestion and we followed through, which has led us to a granted visa so we are super grateful for that!Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust. Here are some questions we’re often asked about our services. If yours isn’t covered, feel free to get in contact with us!
They are two stages of the same application, lodged together. The subclass 820 is the temporary stage and is usually decided first, allowing your partner to live, work and study in Australia. The subclass 801 is the permanent stage, generally assessed around two years after the original lodgement date. Some applicants are eligible for the permanent stage sooner, depending on the length of the relationship and other factors.
Not without a waiver. Condition 8503 prevents most further applications while your partner is in Australia. Waivers are granted only in limited circumstances and are not guaranteed. If this condition appears on their visa grant notice, raise it with us early so we can assess the options before any deadline passes.
If they hold a substantive visa when the application is lodged, they are generally granted a bridging visa that takes effect when their current visa ends. Work and travel rights vary between bridging visa types, and travelling overseas without the right permission can create serious problems. We will explain which one applies to you.
No. Married couples and de facto partners both apply for the same subclasses. De facto applicants usually need to show they have lived in a genuine relationship for at least twelve months before lodging, although registering the relationship in some states can remove that requirement. The evidence expected differs between the two, which is one of the things we work through in your consultation.
If you’re confused about your visa application or don’t quite know where to start, this consultation is for you.
Our consultation is a one-hour session during which we’ll discuss your relationship, highlight any red flags, and give you a clear strategy for what to do next.
Our consultations are designed to educate and empower you, to make you confident about choosing the right Partner Visa pathway for your relationship.
Our initial process looks like this:
We guarantee to provide honest, candid advice about your application.
We also promise not to bamboozle you with legal jargon, make false promises or force you into a corner with aggressive sales tactics.
Instead, we’ll give it to you straight. Honest, fluff-free advice so you don’t waste your time and hard-earned cash.
At Freedom Migration we pride ourselves on transparency and honesty and our reputation says the same. As such, we like to set your expectations of the consultation by outlining what’s not included in an initial Partner Visa consult.
We know a lot of other migration companies offer a 15-minute free discussion. But the truth is these sessions are not about helping you, they’re about giving you the hard sell. And you’ll be chatting to a salesperson not a qualified lawyer or migration agent.
At Freedom Migration our consultation sessions are designed to educate and empower. We take time to understand your story, and unique circumstances. We walk you through all the requirements and pitfalls. And we leave you with complete certainty about the next steps for your visa application process.
Honestly, we believe that the No Visa, No Fee offer made by other migration agents is a little misleading. Visa applications aren’t always a straight yes or no, often additional documentation is needed, a second application, or an appeal.
We’re upfront about our costs and charge a price that represents the work involved and our trusted reputation means we don’t have to rely on gimmicks to win new clients.
We operate in accordance with the Code of Conduct. Our Partner Visa Consultations are not a guarantee of Visa Application success. If we find there is no visa suitable for your situation, we will be honest and let you know. If your situation is complex and requires in more depth consideration in accordance with legislation then we will provide you with a fixed price quote for this.
