Partner visa fee increases prevent families from being together in Australia. Increasing partner visa fees results in a family’s being separated for extended periods and in some cases, the financial barrier can prevent the family from being together indefinitely. On the 1 January 2015 the Scott Morrison (the former Minister for Immigration) chose to increase the fees of partner visas by doubling them. For an offshore partner visa or prospective marriage visa the fee went from around $2680 to over $4600. For family’s lodging an onshore partner visa application the fee went from a cost of around $4500 to the current fee of over $6800.
